Please read and follow these tattoo aftercare instructions carefully. Remember your tattoo is only going to heal as well as you take care of it.
Caring for Your Tattoo
Wash gently with soap and water using your hand. DO NOT use a washcloth.
Do not let direct shower water beat on your tattoo for the first few days.
Pat dry with a towel. DO NOT rub.
Apply a thin layer of triple antibiotic ointment.
PLEASE NOTE: If you experience small red bumps or pimples around your tattoo, you may be allergic to the zinc in the ointment. If this occurs, try using A&D ointment sparingly instead of the triple antibiotic ointment.
For the first 2 to 3 nights before bed, wash your tattoo, apply ointment, and wrap with Saran wrap. This will prevent lint, hair, etc., from sticking to the tattoo and this will prevent scabs from forming.
In the morning, follow the instructions above for washing and applying ointment. You do not have to keep Saran wrap on you tattoo during the day.
DO NOT over-wash or over-apply ointment.
The Tattoo Healing Process - What to Expect
Tattoos, on the average, take about 2 weeks to heal, depending on the person.
During this time, you should not swim, soak in sauna/hot tub, or expose your tattoo to direct sunlight.
Your tattoo may be sore and may have a little redness, this is normal for the healing process.
Your tattoo may also peel or flake. This is normal too. DO NOT pick at your tattoo. If you pull off a scab too soon, it may bleed which can cause you to lose the color and may cause scarring.
During the healing process, your tattoo will also itch. DO NOT scratch at your tattoo.
After the scab has fallen off, your tattoo may appear to have a glossy film over it. Apply Cocoa Butter or Vitamin E lotion daily and the fill will gradually fade.
After your tattoo is completely healed, you should apply lotion daily to keep it looking new and fresh.
After healing, sunscreen should always be applied if your tattoo will be exposed to the sun.
